⁶ On that day I swore to them that ^(A)I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land ^(B)flowing with milk and honey, ^(C)the most glorious of all lands. ⁷ And I said to them, ^(D)‘Cast away the detestable things ^(E)your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with ^(F)the idols of Egypt; ^(G)I am the Lord your God.’

^15 (A)And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, ^(B)choose this day whom you will serve, whether ^(C)the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or ^(D)the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. ^(E)But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

^2 (A)You shall surely destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess served their gods, ^(B)on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. ³ You shall tear down their altars and dash in pieces ^(C)their pillars and burn their ^(D)Asherim with fire. You shall chop down the carved images of their gods and ^(E)destroy their name out of that place.

⁵² then ^(A)you shall drive out ^(B)all the inhabitants of the land from before you and destroy all their ^(C)figured stones and destroy all their metal images and demolish all their high places.

^43 (A)He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. Yet ^(B)the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

² And Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. ³ Nevertheless, ^(A)the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and make offerings on the high places.

³ And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not like David his father. He did in all things as Joash his father had done. ^4 (A)But the high places were not removed; ^(B)the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

¹⁰ But when ^(A)you go over the Jordan and live in the land that the Lord your God is giving you to inherit, ^(B)and when he gives you rest from all your enemies around, so that you live in safety, ¹¹ then to ^(C)the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, ^(D)your tithes and the contribution that you present, and all your finest vow offerings that you vow to the Lord. ¹² And ^(E)you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male servants and your female servants, and the Levite that is within your towns, since ^(F)he has no portion or inheritance with you. ^13 (G)Take care that you do not offer your burnt offerings at any place that you see, ¹⁴ but at ^(H)the place that the Lord will choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I am commanding you.
